What a swell party it was…

Posted by Boundary Community Launderette on 20/09/2010

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday to celebrate our ‘eighteenth birthday’, it was a lovely afternoon – in the words of Cole Porter it was certainly a swell party! We’d like to say a special thank you to Lorraine Hart and Jon Aldenton, formerly of the Environment Trust, who helped pave the way for the launderette in 1990 – we were extremely pleased that they were able to join us. It was Lorraine’s hard work and support that ensured we had funding and that the directors were able to manage  the launderette when it opened in 1992, and her continuing interest and support means a great deal to us. It was also lovely to see Councillor Denise Jones, who has taken a keen interest in the launderette and is a great supporter. We thank Peter Prescott and his team at Albion for our wickedly delicious and very beautiful birthday cake, made by pastry chef Amir who did us proud!

We must mention Maire, our manager, who has been working at the launderette since day one. For many people Maire is the launderette, and we owe her a special thanks for her hard work and unstinting loyalty to the launderette over the past 18 years. Indeed we are extremely proud of all our staff  – Ali, Mina and Tina – so we naturally want to thank them, together with the lovely people – former directors and former staff – who have worked with us over the years.

Naturally we want to say a huge thank you to all our customers, supporters and friends who have, over the past 18 years, ensured the launderette’s success. We certainly appreciated the support we received from everyone, including our fellow traders on Calvert Avenue and the Boundary Estate, during our recent lease negotiations.

We’re happy to say that we’ll be signing our new lease and our future looks a little rosier  – all we have to do now is knuckle down and do some serious fundraising!
