Prices to Rise on Monday 4th October

Posted by Boundary Community Launderette on 29/09/2010

At the beginning of this month we let everyone know that our prices are due to rise on Monday 4th October. We wish we didn’t have to do this, but our costs have increased so much that we have no option. The prices we charge cover the day-to-day running costs of the launderette – rent, utility bills, staff wages and essential repairs – so, even with this increase, we will still be cheaper than most launderettes. We take our role as a not-for-profit community business extremely seriously. The directors receive no payment and, in addition to their time,  receive no reimbursement for administration expenses, (paper, ink, telephone bills, etc), to ensure that the launderette costs are kept to a minimum.

We know that many people are concerned about the length of time it takes to get our machines repaired. We do call out an engineer as soon as a machine is out of action, but it is sometimes difficult to get replacement parts for our machines. Now that we have agreed the lease with Tower Hamlets Council we can start looking for grant funding to upgrade the machines. We have to raise a substantial amount of money – approximately £30,000 – to begin replacing some of the machinery, and this will take some time.
