A Weekend of Sunshine and Chocolate!
Posted by Boundary Community Launderette on 07/04/2011
The warm sunshine is set to last at least until Saturday, and there’s no rain forecast for the weekend at all. Hurrah! We’ve looked for free local events, once again we haven’t found a lot but what we’ve found is quality!
The Rich Mix Centre is holding an exhibition, declassified: Lithuanian Film Posters, a collection of 69 original Lithuanian film posters covering four decades from the personal archives of the photographer Marta Ovod. The exhibition is open 9am to 6pm Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th.
Also at the Rich Mix, on Sunday 10th at 7pm are the Shoreditch Jazz Sessions. This is part of Jazz Fm’s search for the next generation of jazz, soul and funk artists.
For full information about the Rich Mix Free programme, check out the website: http://www.richmix.org.uk/free.htm
You could always take advantage of the weather and chill out in one of the local parks or city farms, the Geffrye Museum gardens are worth a visit too. Check out our links to the right of this page. If you want to venture a little further afield then Victoria Park, Mile End Park and the Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park are glorious places to visit. If you’re feeling really adventurous, hop on the East London overground and make your way to the Horniman Museum & Gardens – the gardens are stunning – or visit Crystal Palace Park and search for the dinosaurs!
Although not local, The London Chocolate Festival at the South Bank Centre this weekend sounds too good to miss! It can easily be reached on the 26 bus from Shoreditch High Street, and there will be lots of chocolate -related activities, including tastings and workshops, for everyone. And it’s free! Open Friday 8th & Saturday 9th, 11am-8pm & Sunday 10th, 11am-6pm. http://www.festivalchocolate.co.uk/festivals/london/
Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy it! Don’t forget you can have a service wash so you can enjoy even more sunshine! If you do want to do your own washing, Arnold Circus and Shoreditch Church Gardens are a few short steps away, so you can catch a few rays as your laundry does its thing.
