Mother’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day… Rain?!

Posted by Boundary Community Launderette on 15/03/2012

There are a few free things going on locally this weekend, and thankfully they’re indoors as the weather forecast is for rain. Let’s hope it’s wrong as the London St. Patrick’s Day Parade followed by a festival in Trafalgar Square is being held on Sunday 18th March , and it’s Mother’s Day!

Old Spitalfields Market is having a Mother’s Day Card Making Market on Saturday 17th March, with free workshops  from midday until 5pm. Designers and crafts people from across the UK will be pitching up at Old Spitalfields Market for the Designers/Makers market. Artist and illustrator Olivia Brotheridge will be running a Mother’s Day card workshop with The Big Draw. The market itself will be open from 11am, with a whole host of stalls offering hand-made gift ideas. Visit the website for full details.

Rich Mix has two events this Sunday 18th March: The Grand Union Youth Orchestra will be playing from 10am until 2pm. Led by top professional jazz and world-musicians from the renowned Grand Union Orchestra, the GUYO will be running free monthly masterclasses and workshops for aspiring young musicians from all musical cultures. For more information on this event visit the Rich Mix website (To find out more about the GUYO visit their website); From 2 until 6pm the whole family can board the Mwalimu Express, London’s only Pan African family adventure – a dazzling experience of Africa and the Diaspora as it pulls in to African cities and brings you awesome music from around the continent. Check out the Rich Mix website for more information.

York Hall will be home to the Red Bull Mini Drome on Sunday 18th March, 3pm. More than 100 competitors will have the opportunity to qualify in a single timed race. Racers with the quickest time across 10 laps will progress through the competition to the final, a single pursuit race.  The track is built to Olympic dimensions and will challenge both body and mind as riders will need to navigate themselves around a unique and technically challenging course reaching speeds of over 30mph. Qualifying takes place on Saturday 17th March, for more details see the   Red Bull Mini Drome Website

There are loads of ideas for other free places to visit and things to see locally,  just check out the links on the right of our web page. Make the most of your weekend by letting us do your laundry for you – it’s one less chore and gives you a bit more time for yourself. As well as flowers, chocolates and other treats for Mother’s Day, get your mum’s laundry serviced wash too – you never know it could just make you the number one child for the day! Have a great weekend.
