On Tuesday 17th July Calvert Avenue will be used for filming of an ITV drama about Gordon Selfridge, the man who opened the Selfridges department store. The launderette and other shops will be ‘disguised’, with film extras and vintage cars on Calvert Avenue to create the appearance of a street in 1908.

The launderette will be open as normal and we have been assured by the film company that disruption will be kept to a minimum. Most filming will be taking place in premises across the street from the launderette but some background scenes will be filmed on the street. You may be asked to wait for a few moments if a scene is being filmed before going in or out of the launderette, but you should not be stopped from walking along the street when filming is not taking place.

If you have any problems with the filming please speak to the location staff or contact the Tower Hamlets Film Office on 020 8980 8771.
