National Volunteers Week

Posted by Boundary Community Launderette on 02/06/2014

It’s National Volunteers Week this week.

Did you know that the launderette was started up by volunteers who were residents of the Boundary Estate in 1990, and opened in 1992? Although the staff are paid workers, the overall management and administration of the launderette is undertaken by voluntary directors. This means ensuring that all legal matters, health & safety requirements, staffing and fundraising to keep the business open are done by a small group of people on a voluntary basis. This is how the launderette manages to keep going and keep its prices low.

Two of the current directors, Jean and Philip, have been there since the very start – 24 years of solid commitment to their neighbours and community!
